Thaicom 3 reaches its new slot at 50.5°E

Shin Satellite announces today that the Thaicom 3 satellite has now reached its new orbital slot of 50.5 Degrees East in Geosynchronous orbit, located above the Middle East. Thaicom 3 was relocated from its original location of 78.5 Degrees East in early August after successfully transferring all the customers’ traffic to the newly launched Thaicom 5 satellite.

Thaicom 3 drifted from 78.5 to 50.5 Degrees East, which took approximately one month traveling 20,643 kilometers to reach its target destination. Shin Satellite’s engineering team also successfully completed testing of the Thaicom 3 satellite at its new location. Thaicom 3 is now ready to commence services in the Middle East and South Asia.

The Thaicom 3 satellite is a Spacebus 3000A model built by Alcatel Alenia Space of France and was launched in 1997.
