Peace TV not banned: Pemra
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has rejected any ban on Peace TV transmission in Pakistan.
According to a press release issued here on Sunday, PEMRA spokesman has said it is a misperception that Pemra has banned any channel.
Everywhere in the world, satellite TV channels are subject to some regulatory regime. Across the world whether in Asia, Europe or America there are some set of rules and procedures and code of ethics meant to regulate and facilitate media, told spokesman.
He further said under Pemra law, it is mandatory to obtain a license or permission prior to establish and operating satellite TV broadcast channel. In case of foreign or off shore satellite TV channels, operating from outside the territory of Pakistan "Landing Rights Permission" is must under the law.
Peace TV has neither applied for licence nor for landing rights permission from Authority; Peace TV is a foreign channel operating from India through satellite. Pemra has a number of times requested all such satellite TV channel operators to get registered with the authority to legitimise their operations.
Pemra spokesman said that the authority has no antagonism to any media broadcaster or individual media outfit, but the only intention is to facilitate the healthy media practices under regulatory ambit.
