SatLink closes in on CEE deals
SatLink closes in on CEE deals By Branislav Pekic
The Israel-based satellite communications company SatLink expects to sign the first contract for its new Eutelsat W2 multiplex in June, according to CEO David Hochner.
Last year SatLink, which is owned by Eurocom Group and France Telecom’s Globecast, made a strategic decision to target the Balkans region, signing up the first customers in Bulgaria, Romania and Greece.
Hochner added that SatLink sees the region, and former Yugoslav countries in particular, as “fast growing markets with lots of demand for satellite capacity, as licences are being issued to many small or full digital broadcasting platforms.”
He also said that SatLink is currently the only company that can help broadcasters from the region to launch their TV channels at once, instead of having to wait until 2010 when new satellite capacity will become available.
Thanks to a deal with the Greek telecom operator OTE, SatLink also has its own fibre-optic capacity in the region.
