SES New Skies has contracted 40 megahertz of capacity on the NSS-7 satellite to Lebanese Internet service provider (ISP) IDMI, SES announced May 5.
IDMI will use the capacity to introduce a new DVB-S2 (digital video broadcasting-satellite-second generation) broadband platform for customers in the Middle East and Africa. NSS-7 is a Ku- and C-band spacecraft located at 338º East and providing coverage of Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.
“IDMI works with financial institutions, government organizations and corporate customers and has the mission of providing customized broadband and telecommunication services to satisfy connectivity requirements all over the world,” Zakie Karam, general manager of IDMI, said in a statement. “NSS-7 not only offers optimal coverage of our target areas, but its orbital position is also a major hot spot for internet connectivity into the Middle East and Africa.”
