A total of 90% of TV sets being sold in Spain now have DTT receivers integrated, according to industrial association AETIC. In Q1 600,000 integrated digital TV sets (idTVs) were sold and aproximately half million DTT decoders. The demand for these products shows a trend towards the end of the market for individual receivers and a "big growth" for integrated TV sets says the study. Total digital receivers installed in Spain surpassed 9.4 million units at the end of these first four months of 2008. Jesús Banegas, AETIC's president highlighted that "the digital receivers are being renewed at a good pace so we are very optimistic that analogue switch off will take place as expected. This way Spain will have a priviliged position in order to start developping HDTV in the near future". During last year 4.5 million TV sets were sold in Spain and the percentage of sales of digital integrated TV sets was 54%. By last December this percentage totalled more than 90% according to the association. AETIC added that TV sets with LCD screens accounted for 80% of the market, with 5% for plasma screens and 15% for small portable gadgets and white brands specially. As for the sales of DTT receivers Impulsa TDT (the organization for Spain's DTT implementation) says nearly 1.5 million homes took up DTT technology over Q1. DTT penetration has now reached 31.8% of the total population. But audience measure company TV Sofres goes further stating the percentage has reached 32.1%, meaning more than 5 million homes. According to consultancy GfK this year the sales of DTT receivers will grow more than 45% in relation to those of last year. If all forecasts are fulfilled by the end of this year Spain could very well count on 15 million DTT receivers installed in the homes. And growth in DTT is helping multichannel audiences grow. Thematic channels for the first time have now reached two percentage points of share. _______________
