IPhone to Hit Scandinavia, No Info on 3G
Apple continues its aggressive iPhone distribution expansion, with several Scandinavian countries on the schedule now to get the coveted smartphone.
On Tuesday, operator TeliaSonera announced it will sell Apple's iPhone in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. No pricing information was released, and TeliaSonera only said availability would be sometime "later this year." TeliaSonera's limited information on the iPhone is similar to other operators that have agreements with Apple. But the inclusion of Scandinavia is another sign pointing towards an imminent launch of a model supporting 3G (third-generation) technology. Introducing the current iPhone, which does not support 3G for faster mobile broadband, would not be wise in the advanced Scandinavian marketplace, according to Leif-Olof Wallin, analyst at Gartner. "We are also seeing less and less stock of the original model, so a launch at the upcoming developer conference is very logical," Wallin said. The hotly anticipated Apple Worldwide Developers Conference starts on June 9.
