Mediaset aims to double pay-TV revenue
Mediaset aims to double pay-TV revenue Mediaset, the Italian TV company controlled by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, has said it plans to double its pay-TV revenue this year, as it seeks to challenge Rupert Murdoch's Sky Italia service. "We closed the first three months with really good results,'" Berlusconi said. "We think we can finish the year in a very positive way." Mediaset has reported that pay-TV revenue rose 144 per cent to E110 million in the first quarter. Mediaset recently introduced three pay channels to compete with Sky Italia and also signed exclusive accords with NBC Universal and Time Warner to get films and series for its networks. The broadcaster will offer a Disney channel and a 24-hour football channel via pay-TV beginning July 1st.
