Channel 4's free-to-air fudge
Channel 4's free-to-air fudge The launch of Freesat has prompted a few confused emails from Wotsat readers with FTA receivers who can't find Channel 4 free-to-air.
We've looked into it - and Channel 4 is FTA, but in a very odd fashion. The unencrypted feed is at 10.729GHz/vertical, but it doesn't have any DVB programme data and it's called "8340". Meanwhile, the encrypted Sky feed is still at 12.168GHz/vertical, and that does have DVB now-and-next data. It's probably best not to ask why Channel 4 has opted for this strange (and bandwidth-hungry) arrangement
