German media group WAZ has entered the Albanian media market with the acquisition of a stake in national commercial TV broadcaster Vizion+. After intensive negotiations in Tirana, the company purchased a minority shareholding in the currently most successful and economically independent television operator in the country. Both parties agreed to maintain confidentiality regarding price.

According to WAZ, the Albanian media market, which it has been following for a year, offers enormous room for expansion and fast growth potential. “Economic and journalistic criteria were the decisive factors in our choice of Vizion+,” said WAZ managing director Bodo Hombach. “We have applied strict quality measures for our involvement in the politically independent and economically solid broadcaster.”

Vizion+ offers a family-oriented general interest service with news, political talk shows and entertainment programmes. WAZ says it does not close out the possibility of further investments in the Albanian media market.
