Over five per cent of Italians are now watching the country’s digital-terrestrial channels, a rise of well over 100% in a year.
It is the first time that viewing for the country’s 28 DTT channels has passed the 5% mark, an increase of around 130% since June 2007.

Sales are also continuing strongly, with some 1.4 million receivers, both stand-alone set-top boxes and integrated equipment, sold since the start of 2008. New figures from Gfk show that during May alone, 310,000 DTT receivers were sold, of which 236,000 were integrated and 75,000 external set-tops.

Gfk estimates that the total installed base of DTT receivers is 8.6 million, although this does not account for homes with multiple receivers. Other figures, notably from local research firm Makno, estimate the number of DTT homes at closer to 6 million.
