RTL enters mobile market

German commercial broadcaster RTL has launched its own mobile phone tariff, including free access to the broadcasters’s mobile internet portal. With RTLmobil customers can place phone calls to all German fixed and mobile lines for 10 euro cents per minute.

A special feature of the service is that domestic customers can use free of charge the complete range of services offered on RTL’s mobile internet portal at -- RTL --. The offer comprises local weather reports, news videos, games, a Formula 1 live ticker, a soccer Bundesliga results service and information on RTL programmes, amongst other functions. With the pre-paid tariff, which is offered in collaboration with Deutsche Telekom subsidiary Congstar on the T-Mobile network, customers in UMTS regions can surf the internet with UMTS speed.

The start-up package is offered without basic fees, minimum use or contractual obligations for €9.90 and includes a €5 credit voucher. For the introductory phase an extra €5 voucher is added until September 30. After family channel Super RTL, which has offered Toggo mobile, a mobile phone tariff for children, since June 2007, RTL is the second German television channel to enter the mobile market.
