Is Canal+ planning to compete with France Télécom’s internet access supplying activity There could be a clue in the plans of non-domestic unit Canal+ Overseas.
According to an interview with Jean-Noël Tronc, president of Canal+ Overseas, the group is planning to start supplying triple-play services combining TV, internet access services as well as telephony to its 300,000 subscribers into French overseas territories.
Tronc said that various business models were being studied, either working with partners such as web supplier Outre Mer Télécom or Mediaserv or offering its own service. Will overseas territories be a good test before launching in metropolitan France challenging the Orange TV strategy
Canal+ Overseas operates services including Canal+ Horizons in sub-Saharan Africa, Canal+ Reunion in Indian Ocean countries and Canal+ Guyane and Antilles in the Caribbean, as well as Canal+'s Polish operations including platform Cyfra+.
