Chip-set developer Broadcom is to buy Advanced Micro Devices’ digital TV business for $193m in cash. The purchase, approved by both companies, needs regulatory approval which is likely later this year.
For AMD it is seen as disposing of a segment of its business that was not core, and permits AMD to take a profit from its efforts. Broadcom will invite 530 AMD digital TV staffers to join its operation, which is now seen as providing a complete line up of products, from low to high-end chip solutions.

As part of the bundle Broadcom gains AMD’s Xilleon integrated DTV processors and reference designs, NXT receiver Integrated Circuits, the Theater 300 DTV semiconductor and panel chips.
