Accused by President Sarkozy of looking too much like a private network, Patrick de Carolis announced that France Télévisions’ autumn schedule will show the broadcaster is different.

According to the president of France Télévisions and his General Director Patrice Duhamel, the last four months of 2008 will be placed under three programming priorities: creation, culture and news. Besides emblematic dramas and documentaries including a special evening on Anne Franck announced on France 2, France Télévisions’ cultural offer is significantly raised up with for instance a monthly slot dedicated to theater and new magazines on literature. The group has also launched a news portal which will become a web news channel.

These next four months will be a transition schedule for all France’s public service networks as advertising will be banned after 8pm as of January 2009. Evening will then start at 8:35pm instead of 8:55pm.

But regarding editorial ambitions, Patrick de Carolis explained that France Télévisions will not have to change its orientations.

About the impending organizational reform, he said that “with 2012 digital switch looming, the reform that will gather the group subsidiaries into one company is necessary. Our group must be powerful enough to tackle the digital challenge.”
