Morgan Stanley to promote UK digital

UK broadcasting regulator Ofcom has given investment bankers Morgan Stanley the brief to “promote” interest internationally in the UK’s upcoming analogue switch off.

Ofcom says the freed up signals transmitted using these airwaves can travel over considerable distances, penetrate buildings and carry a large amount of data, making them suitable for delivering a wide range of services including:

* more digital television services, in standard or high definition;
* mobile broadband; and
* mobile TV

“The award of this spectrum,” says Ofcom, “creates many opportunities for new firms and new technologies to enter the UK wireless communications market, boosting competition and innovation.” Ofcom's objective is to award the digital dividend in a way that maximises the value to society - both citizens and consumers - from its future use.
