Casbaa signs up Indian officials

The CASBAA Convention in Hong Kong at the end of the month will hear from India’s two most senior government officials in the broadcasting and telecoms sphere about that country’s fast-growing media sector.

CASBAA (The Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia) said it had added Ms Sushma Singh, India’s Secretary for the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) and Mr Nripendra Misra, the Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), to its speaker line-up.

Two separate one-to-one conversations with the officials will discuss developments on the sub-Continent. Other one-on-one sessions will be held with key executives Barry Diller of InterActiveCorp, Dr Abe Peled of N.D.S. and Phil Lines of the English Premier League.

There will also be formal presentations from exeutives including Disney Media Networks’ Ben Pyne, BBC Worldwide’s Darren Childs, Roma Khanna of NBC Universal and the Hong Kong Financial Secretary John Tsang.

A newly-designated digital cable segment will feature all of Taiwan’s leading MSOs, plus a “hand-picked team drawn from battle-hardened emerging markets such as Pakistan, Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam.”
