Freeview NZ benefits from World Cup win

Sky TV and TVNZ will share New Zealand coverage of the 2010 FIFA soccer World Cup, following a deal with Australasian rights holder, SBS Broadcasting.

Sky TV will provide full live coverage of the South Africa-hosted tournament on its pay-TV platform, while TVNZ will show 11 matches live on its flagship TV One channel including the opening match, four round two matches, two quarter-finals, both semi-finals and the final.

But Freeview viewers will get TVNZ coverage of a further 11 matches, plus highlights of all other matches on its Sport Extra multiplex channel on Freeview.

TVNZ's General Manager of Sport, Murray Needham, said: "TVNZ and Sky have brought the last two FIFA World Cup events to New Zealand homes. With the addition of Sport Extra on the Freeview platform, we're able to significantly increase our coverage on this occasion.”
