Spain wants part of Columbia TV action
Colombia will launch a third national TV broadcaster soon, and Spain's main broadcasting and media giants are looking for a slice of the action. Sogecable's Prisa and Antena 3 Groupo's Grupo Planeta are working hard to be part of the plan.
Prisa has reportedly fulfilled the requirements specified by the Colombian regulator, and the company will formally enter the competition for the Columbia's third private national channel.
Nevertheless, Prisa will need fresh cash because it is already dragged down by a debt of €5bn.
Elsewhere in this issue we report Prisa is selling its Digital+ pay-TV platform. However, at the same time it continues to invest throughout Latin America, not only in the TV and audiovisual field but also in the newspaper and editorial business.
Antena 3 Groupo's owners (Grupo Planeta) are similarly present in Columbian process through the company Canal 3 Televisión de Colombia together with Venezuelan media group Cisneros through Inversiones Rendiles.
