Canal+ launches Le Cube

French premium channel Canal+ has presented new commercial offers for its subscribers, as well as a set top box dedicated to DTH subscribers.
This same viewers are currently subject to heavyweight marketing from Canal's rivals, in particular by France Telecom subsidiary Orange and its new TV-based services.
Canal Plus' new product will come to the market officially on November 4th in the shape of a new set-top box called snappily Le Cube, and which will permit viewers to access certain shows ahead of the formal transmission date.
This scheme especially covers availability of top-rated US imports. Episodes of US series acquired by Canal+ will be available in thir ‘Version Originale' (undubbed) generally just one week after the initial US transmission. "Le Cube offers all innovations including the first intelligent programming guide," stated Canal+ Director of Marketing Maxime Saada.
The subscription to Le Cube will cost €51 each month, vs 30€ for Canal's basic offer and 41€ for the expanded bundle. In parallel, Canal+ is also introducing a USB-based Canal+, that serves as a HD DTT adaptor to connect on any PC. Sold for 99€, it will give access to Canal+ schedules for an additional 10€ fee for subscribers and 20€ for non-subscribers.
Lastly, the French media group is also launching a second set top box to allow families to watch programmes simultaneously on two TV sets. Currently, Canal+ group claims 10.5 million subs (measured as RGU's): 5.2m for Canal+, 5.3m for CanalSat.
