Nearly 60% of Spaniards have DTT
A total of 58.2% of Spaniards can now have access to Digital Terrestrial TV, and approaching 70% place a high value on the newly available free to view channels. According to data from Spain's Sociology Investigation Centre (CIS) more than 60% of Spain's population considers they are only "slightly" informed about these new technologies, while some 37% of those surveyed who think they are "much" or "quite well" informed. However 43.3% are interested in the new possibilities DTT and cable could offer them.
As for the type of content those questioned wanted to see, most asked for more entertainment, 40.6%, and ahead of news and information (35.6%). Many people (63.8%) think TV programming offers little or no variety, and an even higher number (73.5%) believe programming not to be of sufficient quality.
The report stated that 88.4% of those asked have heard about DTT and 58.2% said they already own a DTT set-top box or an integrated TV set. Of these 31.2% say they always watch DTT while only 29% say they only watch analogue TV.
Talking about the analogue switch over (scheduled for April 3, 2010) the report says 48.2% know about the plans while 57.9% value these technological changes in a positive way but the vast majority (72.9%) did not know of the official campaign organised by Spain's Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, which started out some time ago in order to present the message behind DTT to the general public.
In relation to the frequency of watching DTT, 84.5% confirmed they viewed DTT everyday or almost everyday and most of them (62.4%) watch the new DTT channels typically for between 1 and 3 hours a day.
