Telefónica-Vivendi favourites for Digital+'s sale
By the end of November Spain's main audiovisual company Sogecable could well have concluded who it considers to be its favourite to buy its digital pay TV operation Digital+.
The operation would very well be announced at the same time as Sogecable's owner (editorial group Prisa) which has well-publicised plans to merge with Sogecable.
This plan assumes that the scheme doesn't fall foul of the current economic crisis. However, the favourite today is that a joint venture of Telefónica-Vivendi who will likely buy Digital+. This decision is expected to emerge on November 20 coinciding with at the time of Prisa's General Shareholders Assembly (AGM).
Other offers to buy the satellite operator have come from Mediaset, BSkyB, Spain's main cable operator Ono, News Corporation and Liberty Media.
The final figure the would-be buyers seem willing to pay for Digital+ won't be close to the original suggestion of €4bn Prisa wanted at the beginning of this process - and ahead of the economic melt-down. The fact is that financial experts and most bankers value Digital+ at no more than €3.5bn
