China all digital by 2015

China's SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film and Television) regulator says the country will switch off its analogue TV services by 2015. Professor Huang Yong, SARFT's deputy editor-in-chief, speaking at a London conference organised by The Guardian newspaper, told delegates that the government was revolutionising its media industry.

Prof. Huang said that China's radio and television industry in China was at a crucial stage of transformation. "One aspect is technological transformation, from analogue to digital. If we see year 2000 as the starting point this transformation will need roughly 20 years to develop. That is to say it will be complete by 2020," Huang said.
He explained that digital TV already reached close to 40m homes, and that in more than 50 large and medium-sized cities the cable systems had already been digitised.
