The French federation of telco operators, which includes fixed line, mobile phone and web access operators, is vigorously denouncing the new 0.3% revenue tax imposed as part of the French audiovisual reform law. The extra tax will be levied in order to help finance France's public broadcasters following the partial banning of advertising during TV prime-time.

The federation has called on the French parliament's "wisdom to amend or delay the adoption of the financial part of the law project." It considers that such a tax is "unjustified" and "particularly penalizing" owing to the efforts already demanded of companies to meet the nation's Digital France 2012 plan.
Not helping is the uncertainty generated by the current economic crisis. "It would be ill-timed that the weight of PSB restructuring burdens on a sector already submitted to strong financing needs," the federation argued.
