RFI slashing radio services
Radio France International is to cut six of its specialised language services beamed from Paris. Out will go German-language services, as well as Albanian, Pilish, Serbo-Croatian, Turkish and services to the former French interests in Laos.
RFI already went on strike last Wednesday to protest the changes that were anticipated. The complete plan was unveiled on Oct 24 in Paris by the broadcaster's president Alain de Pouzilhac and RFI's MD, the broadcaster Christine Ockrent. Some 50 staff will be directly affected. RFI is proposing a new suite of languages to be transmitted including Brazilian Portuguese, possible Spanish or Swahili. Source: Rapid TV News 2008
