MEO Mobile installs Envivio's technology

IPTV technology supplierEnvivio has secured a major contract from Portugal Telecom (PT) for its MEO Mobile service.
MEO Mobile has selected Envivio’s platform to upgrade and expand its mobile streaming service, enabling it to deliver 37 channels of high quality broadcast TV as well as a wide variety of VOD content.
PT is the dominant mobile network operator in Portugal with over 6 million subscribers. The MEO Mobile service has been in operation since mid 2006 and at the same time it has a large existing subscriber base which, it says, has benefited from the recent service enhancement.
The MEO Mobile service now delivers 23 live channels and 14 playlist channels, all featuring the National and International news, sports and entertainment content that subscriber are accustomed to watching on their home TV's. In addition to this PortugalTelecom's mobile network provides a VOD service which allows subscribers easy on-demand access to highlights of popular broadcast programming, as well as films and TV shows.
"We are very excited about the future of MEO Mobile. After operating our service for over two years we can see that demand is definitely there", said Vera Pinto Pereira, Head of Marketing at PT. "This new solution from Envivio has improved the viewing experience for our users by delivering better video quality and higher service reliability. We are confident that our investment in the upgrade of our encoding platform will pay back very quickly through higher levels of service adoption and customer retention", he added.
