StarHub upgrades PVR to HD
Singaporean cable operator Starhub will launch a high definition version of its Hubstation media centre and PVR device on Saturday, November 15.
Hubstation HD will enable customers to watch and record both standard and high definition programmes, as well as providing access to a free bradband internet service and Starhub’s Digital Voice service.
There are five HD channels on the Starhub platform of which one, HD5 (the high-def version of Mediacorp’s free-to-air Channel 5) is free to all Starhub TV customers. Another, Sports HD, is free for all Sports Group package subscribers, while the remaining three – Nat Geo HD, Discovery HD and The History Channel HD, are packaged together under the Education HD group.
Hubstation HD has a 320GB hard-disk allowing recording of up to 30 hours of HD programming (160 hours in standard-def). The device also allows access to Starhub’s new Demand TV VOD service, as does the standard-def version.
Cost difference is minimal, with Hubstation HD available to rent at S$14 a month (US$9) compared with the standard definition version at S$8 a month.
