zon_multimedia.jpgPortugese media group ZON Mutimedia (formerly Portugal Telecom Multimedia) has seen its profit fall 2.4% for the first nine months of the year, to €50.9 milliion.

The company justifies the downturn in its profits due to the purchase of its own stakes and also to the acquisition of the companies Partifel, Bragatel and Pluricanal.

The company lost 17,900 clientes from its cable offering between July and September alone, although its digital TV client base grew to nearly 446,000 subscribers.

Around 46% of the company's subscribers have two of the three of its services such as internet, traditional telephony and digital TV (either cable or satellite). And 18% of them are subscribed to the 'triple play' package meaning the three options.

On the other hand the company's EBITDA reached €186.2 million meaning a growth of 8.9% compared with the former year. This was in a period where sales amounted to €570.4 million, up 8.1%.

ZON Multimedia's main pay TV offering is ZON TV Cabo (formerly called TV Cabo) broadcasting through the Hispasat satellite system at 30 degrees West.
