Sterlite Technologies prepares for FTTH launches across India
November 26, 2008 - Indian firm Sterlite Technologies, a provider of optical fibres, telecoms cables and integration services, has stated that it is working with various telecoms operators to launch fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services across India.
"We are working with various telecom service providers to launch Sterlite fibre-powered home solutions across India," said Anand Agarwal, CEO of Sterlite Technologies. "It will enable enterprises and home-users to experience true broadband, through interactive and real-time high bandwidth intensive application via an optical fibre-based infrastructure. These applications include movies-on-demand, music-on-demand, online gaming, IPTV, P2P, VoIP, video conferencing, surveillance and other applications from a single portal."
Mr Agarwal added that the company is working with state-run telco Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) to offer fibre-powered services in Mumbai and New Delhi. J Gopal, Executive Director of MTNL, commented: "India is not far behind in technologies as there is a great demand for movies-on-demand, video games download and high-speed broadband Internet from our customers. We are now trying to provide IPTV."
