Bent TV returns
Bent TV returns
Melbourne’s seminal queer television channel, Bent TV, is to be re-launched nationally. The community broadcaster, which began in 1993, has been screening repeats this year, leading to speculation the channel has folded. However, Bent TV secretary Nick Basset told MCV that lack of production was due to problems retaining volunteers. “Volunteer engagement and retainment is always the problem with community organisations,” Basset said. “We have been trying to find a way to get the production back on track.” The queer production house was approached by gay focussed satellite venture GaySat, who were looking for content contribution from Bent TV. The partnership with GaySat means Bent TV will now have the resources to resume production. “Having some money means that we can put that towards equipment and crew expenses,” Basset said. “It will see production back on track.” “The arrangement with GaySat also means we can produce new content and still maintain our free to air arrangement with Channel 31.” Bent TV will now be broadcast across Australia and New Zealand via GaySat on AsiaSat 4. The relaunch is expected early next year and the announcement will be formally made at Bent TV’s AGM this Saturday.
